What is a platinum French Bulldog?

‘Platinum’ is a breeder term, not a colour recognised by the breed standard. Genetically, a platinum dog is cream (e/e, the recessive gene that keeps dark pigment out of the coat) on a lilac base. The coat looks near-white, while the lilac genetics show in the nose, eye rims and paw pads.

The genetics

Genotypee/e on a lilac base (d/d + co/co or b/b)

Cream (e/e) hides the base colour in the coat, so you cannot see a platinum’s genetics by looking at it. We confirm the dilution, brown and cream loci of every parent by DNA, so you know exactly what lies under the cream.

Appearance

A pale cream to near-white coat with a lilac-grey nose and light eyes.

Pink or platinum?

Pink French Bulldog →

Pink and platinum are close relatives: both are cream (e/e) on a lilac or isabella base, and the genotype can be the same. The difference is pigment and shade. We call a puppy pink when its skin, nose and eye rims stay visibly pink and the coat has a warm cast; platinum when the coat is a cooler near-white and the nose and pads are lilac-grey. We judge this as the puppy matures and tell you which it is before you are offered a puppy.

Variations

Platinum new shade

Cream on an isabella base, giving an even lighter, near-white coat. Our male Timmy Turner is a platinum new shade.

Colour and the breed standard

The FCI breed standard for the French Bulldog recognises fawn, brindle and pied. Colours such as blue, lilac, isabella, chocolate and merle, and the long-haired fluffy coat, fall outside the standard, and some have been linked to health concerns, such as colour dilution alopecia in dilute dogs or deafness in double merles. We are open about this. It is why we never pair two merle dogs, why every parent’s full results are published, and why health and temperament decide each pairing, never colour alone.

Questions about platinum French Bulldogs

Do platinum French Bulldogs need sun protection?

Yes. The pale coat and lightly pigmented skin burn more easily than darker colours. Avoid strong midday sun in summer, offer shade, and use a dog-safe sunscreen on the nose, ears and thin-haired belly. This is ordinary care, not a sign of illness.

Is a platinum French Bulldog albino?

No. The cream gene only keeps dark pigment out of the coat. A platinum still has pigment in its eyes, nose and pads. Albinism is a different and very rare condition.

How much does a platinum French Bulldog cost?

Our platinum French Bulldog puppies start from €8,000. The price of an individual puppy depends on its confirmed genetics and sex and is shown on the puppy’s page.

Can I choose the colour of my puppy?

You tell us your preferred colour when you apply. Colour can vary within a litter, so we match puppies by temperament and home first and tell you honestly which colours a planned litter can produce.
